Idaho State University's Bioinformatics Laboratory
The Evolutionary, Ecological, and Environmental Genomics Group
What we do:
ISU’s EGG has two missions:
I. EGG is affiliated with the ISU Molecular Research Core Facility (MRCF), charged with providing computational facilities and bioinformatics support for MRCF users. This includes the development of a platform for distributing and managing data, developing tools to analyze those data, and providing the expertise to put it all together.
II. EGG provides computational facilities and bioinformatics support for ISU researches engaged in ecological and evolutionary research that includes genomics or proteomics components.
Members of the EGG:
Michael Thomas, Associate Professor of Comparative Genomics, Department of Biological Sciences
Luobin Yang, Bioinformatics Specialist, Department of Biological Sciences
Mitch Day Ph.D, postdoc, Department of Biological Sciences
Deborah Johnson, Ph.D., (lab alumna)
Shannon Barry,
graduate student, Department of Biological Sciences
Kelsey Metzger, graduate student, Department of Biological Sciences
Peter Hallock, graduate student, Department of Biological Sciences
Peter Sheridan, Assoc. Prof., Department of Biological Sciences
Rick Williams, Asst. Prof., Department of Biological Sciences
Scot Kelchner,Asst. Prof., Department of Biological Sciences
Vern Winston, Prof., Department of Biological Sciences
Malcolm Shields, Assoc. Prof., Department of Biological Sciences
James Lai, Prof., Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Chris Daniels, Prof. & Chair, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Graduate Student Openings:
There are currently no Graduate Research Assistant positions open, but other positions may become available depending on funding. Graduate students in the EGG participate in bioinformatics tool development and conduct research using comparative genomics approaches. Students earn a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in Bioinformatics. Please contact Mike Thomas for more information.
